Sentez Microseismic Monitoring
Microseismic monitoring is the observation of very small-scale seismic events occurring in the ground as a result of industrial processes such as human activities, mining, hydraulic fracturing, geothermal operations, or underground gas storage. These micro-earthquakes are too small to be felt on the surface, but they can be detected using seismometers and sensitive accelerometers.
Unlike conventional source-based seismic methods, microseismic monitoring is a passive method that listens to seismic energy naturally occurring underground.
Microseismic monitoring:
- It is a passive method, also known as induced seismicity monitoring, and listens to the seismic energy generated by micro-fractures occurring underground.
- It is a passive method that provides continuous data recording within the monitoring area, rather than individual snapshots obtained over time through conventional seismic methods.
- Microseismic results are generally provided in real time and offer insight into what is happening deep underground as a result of industrial operations.
- It is one of the most effective detection methods for determining when a microseismic event occurred, where it occurred, and its magnitude.
- Conventional microseismic mapping determines the location and magnitude of events.
- By monitoring microseismic events, operators begin to observe seismicity patterns related to production activities.
S-waves triggered by microseismic events are generally the strongest seismic signals in the recorded data. Thus, it is possible to generate a four-dimensional model using three-component data recorded in downhole microseismic stations.
Microseismic monitoring is a powerful regulation and production optimization tool used for underground natural gas storage operations. It is a passive seismic method used to provide feedback on reservoir integrity.
- Reservoir characterization
- Monitoring steam development in thermal injection / recovery processes
- Monitoring well integrity
- Reservoir fracture development
- Providing many useful data outputs, especially real-time alerts for operators
